If you live in Santa Cruz or points south, you do not need to travel to Ben Lomond to enjoy our baked goods! On March 14th from 12-1 pm, you can pick up your order at Viking Hall, 240 Plymouth Street, Santa Cruz.
Viking Hall is the home of the Scandinavian Cultural Center of Santa Cruz, which has graciously agreed to be a pickup site for order deliveries.
The deadline for placing orders is Wednesday, March 11. You do not need to be a member of the SCCSC to place an order and pick it up there.
What Is Fika?
Fika (pronounced fee-ka) is the Swedish tradition of daily coffee or tea breaks with baked treats and good company. Fika reflects the Swedish ideal of balance, connection, and mindful enjoyment of life’s small joys.
A taste of Sweden in the Santa Cruz mountains.
Fragrant cardamom. Tart lingonberries. Earthy rye flour. Susan Ortmeyer, the baker behind Fika Bakeshop, grew up with these flavors of Sweden thanks to her mother, Rose Lee. She is eager to share them with the Santa Cruz mountains community.

Unlike a traditional bakery or restaurant, Fika Bakeshop & Kitchen does not have a brick-and-mortar location.
Fika Bakeshop & Kitchen is a legal home bakery and restaurant operating under a Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operation (MEHKO) permit issued by the Santa Cruz County Department of Environmental Health. A MEHKO is a small-scale food business that allows residents to prepare, cook, and sell food directly to consumers from their permitted home kitchen.

Seasonal eating means living in harmony with nature. Fika Bakeshop believes in using fruit and vegetables that are in season and preferably grown locally and organically. It’s better for the earth and better for us.
If baking is any labor at all, it's a labor of love. A love that gets passed from generation to generation.
